Now that we know that fire safety is important for children, it is also crucial that we practice some simple drills and habits that helps to prevent a house fire from happening.

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure... and when it comes to dealing with fire, we should never take any of these for granted.

So.. here are some of the things you can to to teach your children about fire safety ?

  • Educate your child that fire is dangerous and can kill
  • Fires at home are only used for cooking and nothing else
  • They should never play with fire
  • Share with them some stories about house fire
  • In the event of house fire, what they should do to protect themselves.

In addition, here are some habits that you should take note of:

  • Never leave stove or cooking unattended
  • Never leave any lighters or match sticks lying around
  • Keep all match sticks or lighters away from the reach of children
  • Never play or demonstrate irresponsible use of fire, especially in front of children.
  • Always check for loose cable wiring
  • Never place a heater near the curtains
  • Install a water sprinkler system at home and have fire extinguishers in place at the corner of your home for preventive measures.
  • Know and learn how to use a fire extinguisher.

When you practice safe habits and responsible use of fire, you decrease your children's curiosity of fire... and by educating them further on the importance of fire safety, you are in fact, keeping your loved ones and your property safe, thus creating a happier and better environment for your children.

@Daisyjae, that's right. you dun want to scare them, but rather, using stories and how fires has caused some loss of homes in accidents and should never be played with.
